Celebrating 10 Years of Shannon Davies

Ten years is a huge milestone… And in Shannon’s case, it represents a decade of showing up with positivity, professionalism, and an unmistakable pride for Saskatoon that shines through everything she does.

We’re honoured to celebrate the Manager of our Business Development team, Shannon Davies, on her 10-year anniversary with Discover Saskatoon.

Over the past decade, Shannon has played a key role in some of our most impactful work, bringing people, events, and opportunities to the city while building the strong relationships that keep our visitor economy moving. Whether she’s championing a major initiative, supporting partners, or spotting the next big opportunity, her impact is felt across our organization and city.  

A Decade of Growth (and plenty of adventure)

One of the things we admire most about Shannon is how she’s grown with Discover Saskatoon and helped the organization grow right alongside her.

CEO Steph Pocha expressed her appreciation:

Over the years, Shannon has worn many hats, including National Convention Sales Coordinator, Executive Assistant, Business Development Specialist – National, International, Sports & Major Events, and now Manager of Business Development.

Ask her if she has a favourite role and you’ll quickly see why she has been, and still is, so valuable:

“I don’t have a single favourite. Each position has offered new learning, adventure, and opportunities for both personal and professional growth.”

That openness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges is a big part of what makes Shannon such a steady force on our team. She brings calm when things get complex, and energy when things move fast (which, in tourism and events, is… often).

The Passion Behind the Work

Tourism and business events aren’t just a job for Shannon; they are a genuine passion. She was drawn to the industry by her love of events, travel, hospitality, and the opportunity to represent Saskatoon on the global stage.

That enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s a big reason why Shannon is such a trusted leader and collaborator. She brings both excitement and follow-through, which is exactly what great destination work requires.

Long-time Discover Saskatoon colleague Marcy Atkinson said:

Helping Discover Saskatoon Evolve

During Shannon’s time here, Discover Saskatoon has evolved in big ways, and she’s been part of that momentum from the start. As she puts it:

“Over the past decade, Discover Saskatoon has grown into a strategic leader in tourism and economic development, actively shaping the city’s visitor experience.”

She also highlighted what drives our organization:

“At the heart of our work is authentic storytelling, which brings the story of Saskatoon vividly to life.”

That belief shows up in everything Shannon does with intention, credibility, and a clear understanding that what we’re building is bigger than any one event.

Changing Minds About Saskatoon (the best part)

One of Shannon’s favourite parts of the job is watching perceptions shift, especially when visitors arrive with outdated assumptions and leave genuinely impressed:

“Saskatoon is sometimes perceived as a small prairie city with limited offerings; however, once clients and visitors experience it firsthand, they are consistently impressed by its natural beauty, vibrant atmosphere, and wide range of experiences and amenities.”

That “wait… this city is incredible” moment never gets old, and Shannon helps create it again and again.

Milestones Worth Celebrating

Ten years comes with plenty of proud moments. Shannon has been part of hosting major industry conferences like the PCMA National Conference and CanSPEP, as well as securing headline events like the upcoming CCMA Awards and the 2027 Brier.  

But for Shannon, the real win is the bigger picture:

“When we consider the economic impact that attracting business and events has on our city, it is truly remarkable.”

A Go-To Teammate and Steady Presence

If you’ve worked with Shannon, you know she’s someone people rely on. A connector, a problem-solver, and a reassuring steadiness when things get busy. She is thoughtful about how Saskatoon is presented, who is included in the story, and how we show up as an organization.

Chelsea Pitre, a member of our Business Development team, reflected on their time working together:

When asked for a must-see Saskatoon experience? Shannon says Wanuskewin Heritage Park is an easy winner for its immersive Indigenous storytelling, rich history, and stunning scenery.

Looking Ahead

Even after ten years, Shannon is excited for what’s next — the continued evolution of our city, the growth of our team, and exciting opportunities on the horizon, including the Downtown Event & Entertainment District.
