Saskatoon pulses with a certain sort of sonic energy. Thankfully, there’s a diverse array of stores, performance spaces, and historical hotspots that can cater to every music lover’s tastes. From intimate jazz clubs to lively concert halls, the city's rich orchestra of sound invites music lovers to immerse themselves in truly unforgettable experiences.

Morning

I’ve always found the crackle of vinyl and the scent of an old album cover supremely satisfying. There’s also something undeniably therapeutic about combing through stacks of records, searching for the perfect new addition to your collection. So why not begin your “Music Lover’s Day” with a trip to Vinyl Diner CD's & Records? The store is a beloved haven for music enthusiasts, and is located right in the thick of things on Broadway Avenue. Step inside of this eclectic shop and immerse yourself in a treasure trove of vinyl records spanning genres from classic rock to indie favorites. Whether you're hunting for rare gems or simply browsing the latest releases, the Vinyl Diner offers a nostalgic journey through sound.

Afternoon

If you’re feeling a bit peckish after picking up a few new albums, swing by Leopold’s Tavern on Broadway for a quick lunch! You can enjoy your own music-themed meal, the hearty (and delicious) Juke Burger. And while you’re at it, why not take a spin on the jukebox and play some of your favourite classic tunes?

After you’re done eating, it’s time to head to the historic Broadway Theatre. The venue is known for hosting an eclectic mix of performances, from indie bands to classical ensembles. The overall retro atmosphere of the building itself is enough reason to give it a try. Take a look at their schedule for matinee shows or special events that will promise to captivate you on your day out.

After the show, read the dedicated Joni Mitchell plaque outside of the theatre, and revisit a piece of our city’s musical history. In the early 1960s, when Joni was still a teenager, she played her first official gig at the old Louis Riel coffeehouse next door (where Calories now stands). Take a moment to bask in her legacy—you’re standing in the very same spot that one of the greatest singer-songwriters to have lived did!

Evening

As the sun starts to fade away, you’ll find you have plenty of enticing options for taking in live music. You could stay in the heart of Broadway and head to Amigo's Cantina for a lively show that pairs perfectly with their delicious Mexican cuisine. Or, if you’re up for an adventure, head downtown to The Bassment, a renowned jazz club known for their stylish vibes.

If classical is more your speed, check out what unique concert the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra is offering at TCU Place. Or, perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to watch one of the impressive performances periodically put on by Saskatoon Opera’s finest performers.

After dinner, let the music carry you into the night as you explore Saskatoon's vibrant nightlife. From cozy pubs with live music like Somewhere Else Pub & Grill in Avalon, to trendy lounges playing smooth jams like Parlor, the city offers a plethora of places. All you need to do is unwind with a drink in hand and revel in the sounds of Saskatoon's music-loving community.
