No Strangers to Saskatchewan – we first met these fellers in the Foggy Hogtown days, and in other carnations over the years like Max playing with Annie Lou, and John with New Country Rehab. Chris Coole is one of the country’s top old time banjo players and respected for his songwriting and superb teaching abilities. Coming to Saskatoon as the beloved Lonesome Ace Stringband, this trio brings grit, skill, and abandon to acoustic roots music, bridging old-time, bluegrass & folk traditions into a seamless hybrid of original material that is fresh and timeless. Their sound is anchored in the fiddle of John Showman, the clawhammer banjo of Chris Coole, and the upright bass of Max Malone who move freely between an aggressive commanding sound to a sparse fragility that draws the listener closer, the band sings about modern love, BBQ techniques alongside life's inevitable existential crises.
