Make a Memory Vinok with Erin Suliak
Join us for a two-day, hands-on workshop exploring memory, making, and tradition through the creation of a very special vinok—a Ukrainian wreath historically connected to summer rituals and the natural world.
Led by Yellowknife-based artist Erin Suliak, this intimate workshop invites participants to create a deeply personal “memory vinok.” In addition to the materials provided, participants are encouraged to bring small objects, fabrics, paper, or other items from home that carry special meaning. These personal elements will be transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects memory, connection, and story.
Over the course of the weekend, you will learn techniques for constructing decorative elements—using beads, floristry materials, and found objects—and assembling them into a finished wreath, either wearable or suitable for display.
Participants are encouraged to reflect on a person, moment, or experience they wish to honour. The process can be both creative and emotional, offering space for quiet reflection as well as shared conversation. Each vinok will be entirely unique, shaped by the materials and memories you bring to it.
No prior experience is necessary—only patience and curiosity.
